Common buyer questions.
What does a smart LED driver do?
It converts mains supply to the constant current the LED needs, and adds addressable control — so the fixture can be dimmed, grouped into scenes and scheduled without a separate dimmer module in the circuit. That is what allows zone control without running dedicated control cable.
What is the difference between TRIAC, 0-10V and DALI drivers?
TRIAC dims on the mains waveform and suits small residential loads on existing wiring. 0-10V uses a separate low-voltage control pair and is simple and reliable for single-zone commercial. DALI is addressable and two-way, so each fixture can be controlled and reports back — the standard for multi-zone commercial work.
Why do my LEDs flicker or buzz when dimmed?
Almost always a mismatch between driver and dimmer, or a load below the dimmer’s minimum rating. Confirm the driver protocol before choosing the dimmer, and check the dimmer’s minimum load — a handful of low-wattage LEDs on a dimmer rated for incandescent will flicker.
Can smart drivers be retrofitted to existing fixtures?
Sometimes. If the fixture takes an external driver, it can often be swapped. If the driver is integrated into the fixture body, it usually cannot. Check before assuming a retrofit is possible — this is a common surprise on refurbishment projects.
