What is an IP-rated linear profile used for outdoors?

It provides continuous linear light along a soffit, a parapet, a step nosing or a boundary wall — the outdoor equivalent of an indoor cove. Because it is a sealed extrusion, it survives rain and dust where an indoor profile would fail.

What IP rating should an outdoor profile have?

IP65 for covered and vertical positions, IP67 where the profile sits horizontally and water can pond in it. Also check the end-cap seal, which is the usual weak point on a long extrusion.

Can outdoor profiles be cut to length on site?

Sealed IP-rated profiles generally cannot be cut without breaking the seal. Specify the run lengths at drawing stage so the fixtures are supplied to size, with the joints and feed points planned. This is a common cause of delay when it is left to the installer.

How do I avoid seeing individual LEDs in a profile?

Use a diffused cover and keep enough distance between the LED strip and the diffuser — the higher the profile section, the smoother the result. Dense LED pitch also helps. A shallow profile with a clear cover will always show dots.
