What size chandelier do I need for my room?
A common starting point is to add the room dimensions in feet and use that figure in inches as the diameter — a 14 x 16 ft room suggests roughly a 30-inch fixture. Over a dining table, aim for a fixture about half to two-thirds the table width.
How high should a chandelier hang?
Over a dining table, 750–900mm above the table top. In an open room with a 9 ft ceiling, keep at least 2.1 metres of clearance beneath. In a double-height stair void, the lowest element should still sit above head height on the upper landing.
Do chandeliers provide enough light on their own?
Rarely. A chandelier is a focal object first and a light source second. Pair it with recessed downlights or cove for the ambient layer, and put the chandelier on its own dimmed circuit so it can be brought down to a glow when the room is being used rather than displayed.
What finishes are available?
Brushed brass, matte black, polished nickel and antique bronze are the common architectural finishes. Choose to coordinate with the room hardware schedule — door furniture, taps and switch plates — rather than with the furniture, which is more likely to change.
